Instead of grieving over her dead boyfriend, supermarket clerk Movern Callar takes his money, goes out partying and travels to Spain with her best friend. British director Lynne Ramsay’s Morvern Callar was recently voted one of the ten most underrated films of the last decade. It’s certainly the most intriguing.

Thanks so much for scheduling this film! I’ve been meaning to watch it for years and never got round to it and then I saw your posters and it’s the perfect opportunity. I work in deptford so it’s very handy, and will definitely be coming along on Wednesday.

Thanks to everyone who came to this screening. We decided it was a wonderful film, but thought it might have dared go emotionally/dramatically deeper. Here’s what you told us about the night:

  • Funny painful and really trippy. One of the best films I’ve seen in years. Music was amazing.
  • Thought-provoking, beautifully shot, moving and sinister.
  • Loved the amazing camerawork. Samantha Morton was mesmerising.
  • A lovely performance by Samantha Morton. Worth watching just for her.
  • In an ideal world there would be a solid door and wall to improve the soundproofing.
  • Shame about the extraneous noises from the pub.
  • Quite unlike any other film I’ve seen. Dreamlike, beautifully shot, wonderfully acted, outstanding music.
  • Not sure about the pre-film chat.
  • Morbidly stellar.
  • Very entertaining night and an extremely interesting film.
  • Different from other films I’ve seen.
  • Interesting and not typically British.
