Fri 26 Feb: SISTER ACT 2

USA 1993 /107 minutes / Certificate U

A year ago we ran a sell-out screening on SISTER ACT at St Nicholas Church with live gospel choir.

Now we’re back for the sequel. Same rules: A joyful singalong film screening in the main space of St Nicholas Church. Our bar sells beer and wine, and the church’s gospel choir performs before and after the film. And once again, this is a fundraiser for New Cross + Deptford Free Film Festival 2016, which launches at the end of April.

In SISTER ACT 2: BACK IN THE HABIT, Maggie Smith’s Mother Superior asks Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg) to teach in a run-down Catholic school. Only by winning the all-state choir championship can the school be saved from closure. But can Deloris inspire her class of uninterested students led by a talented-but-cynical soul singer (played by a young Lauryn Hill)? Of course she can. This movie is as formulaic as it gets, but what a great formula! And the finale makes me cry everytime.

We recommend you book early to avoid disappointment. And do arrive at 7pm to buy drinks and get the best seats for a pre-film performance by St Nicholas Church Gospel Choir. Oh Happy Day!
